Blackout Vertical Blinds for bedrooms

Posted: 4 Nov 2022

Whether you work night shifts or day shifts, it’s important that your room allows you to sleep comfortably no matter the hour of the day. Generally, most people prefer to sleep in complete darkness, so we suggest installing dimout blinds for your bedroom.  However, if you would like to customise your shade then installing blackout vertical blinds or Duette®  blinds might be your best option.

Why choose Blackout Vertical Blinds?

The panes in vertical blinds allow you to switch between three options of shading. If you fully extend your blackout vertical blinds you can almost have total darkness. When you turn the louvres you can see out but with slight shading. Or you can retract all your blinds and have a full view of the outside and sunlight.

Can I get Blackout Vertical Blinds for a Gable Window?

We don’t only install vertical blinds for standard shape glazing, we also install them on gable windows sometimes. With unique homes with vaulted ceilings and feature windows, we are having to create more gable end blackout blinds. However, we do recommend our Duette® gable blinds for unique windows rather than vertical blinds for gable end windows as they retract away much more neatly, as demonstrated below.

Negatives and Positives of Vertical Blinds

Positives:

  • Blocking out the sun can help keep your room cool and control temperature slightly.
  • We offer our bespoke vertical blinds in a variety of fabrics, colours and textures.
  • Our manual blinds are all child-safe as they come with control wands so there’s no risk with any blind chords.
  • A cost-effective option for gable blinds.
  • By choosing bespoke vertical blinds we also ensure the louvres of your vertical blinds won’t fall back against gravity like they often do with cheaper alternatives.

Negatives:

  • Duette® Thermal Blinds can be better at temperature control and may be a better option if you’re researching what are the best blinds for keeping heat out.
  • Vertical blinds retract to the side of your gable window in a stack rather than folding into the angled recess as our other blinds can.
  • It’s important to remember that whilst the fabrics themselves are blackout, no blinds manufacturer can offer 100% blackout blinds, as there will always be light bleed on the edges.

We offer motorisation options for most of our blinds including our vertical blinds. For example, we could install your verticals as remote control blinds, smart blinds and battery powered blinds.

What Blackout Blinds we recommend:

Our most popular form of dimout blinds are Duette® thermal blinds due to their honeycomb texture which is great for thermal regulation. Additionally, they can be recess-fit next to the glass so will ensure you have the highest window coverage and therefore a darker room. By combining these with free-hanging blinds such as roller blinds, you can achieve a full dimout effect without light bleeding through. With vertical blinds, the louvres will leave thin strips of light coming through even when fully extended.

Customer reviews

All aspects of the measuring, estimate and fitting were completed efficiently and satisfactorily. We are very pleased with the result.

Excellent service from the salesman down to the fitter. All very professional and pleasant. Salesman was not at all pushy unlike two other companies I had in for a quote (one of which I had used before at my old address).

I must admit I was a little worried with the quote because it was half the price of the previous company. I needn't have worried the quality was just as good if not better!

The service was second to none, but this is what you get when dealing with a family run business. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company it was hassle free from start to finish.
