While most people think of condensation in a conservatory being a problem during the colder months; it’s something that needs to be kept an eye on throughout the year. We get calls even during the spring and summer from people having trouble preventing mould on their blinds; which is a direct result of condensation forming on the windows. We have created advice to help with and explain conservatory condensation.

Do Blinds Cause Condensation?

Although a lot of people seem to think that having blinds in a conservatory will increase condensation. The blinds themselves are actually not the cause – a fact backed up by the British Blind and Shutter Association. Instead, condensation is actually just a result of the air in a conservatory being too humid; and settling on a cooler surface. Although the warmer weather of the Spring and Summer makes it harder for condensation to form; that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be looking out for it. Once condensation forms it’s very easy for mould to grow. This can cause permanent damage to any blinds near the glass.

Conservatory Condensation Advice

The easiest way to stop condensation during the spring and summer is to make sure the air does not get too humid. Depending on what people are using their conservatory for, it’s easy for water vapour to enter the air when doing activities such as ironing, drying clothes or even cooking. The best thing to do in those situations is to make sure that the air in the conservatory is circulating so that the humid air is moved out of the room. If you’re not doing anything that could add to the humidity of the air and are still finding that you have condensation in your conservatory, you should probably check for any leaks in the conservatory’s frame that could be letting water into the room.

Why is this important?

Conservatory condensation advice: once condensation forms it makes it very easy for mould to start growing. If any of the mould gets on to the blinds, it can be extremely difficult – if not impossible – to remove. Because of this, we always recommend that people do everything they can to stop the mould from growing in the first place, to avoid any permanent damage to their blinds.
