Whether you’re just moving into a new home with a large roof window or looking to install one, we have a variety of shading solutions for you. There are many lantern roof blinds and flat roof skylight blinds options for you to check out. We’ve also got a handy guide for you below if you’re unsure which type of glazing you might have in your ceiling.

Working out if you have a Flat Roof Skylight or Lantern Roof

It’s quite simple to assess your glazing situation without bringing in a professional. The clue is in the name! If the glazing is one flat pane of glass, then it’s probably a flat roof skylight.  Like the three skylights featured below, we tend to install blinds on larger glazing projects as we, as specialists, can craft extra large lantern roof blinds.

However, if the window in your roof has many different panes and the middle of it has an increased depth, then that would be a lantern roof. As pictured below, here’s a lantern roof with blinds individually fitted to the panes of glass. You can see how the panes angle towards the deepest part of the lantern across the middle.

Skylight blinds are particularly effective, for those who wish to shade or further insulate their home. We offer Duette® lantern roof blinds to help you conserve the heat in your room and reflect out any excess heat from above which helps you regulate the temperature. Blinds like those pictured below, are fitted snugly against your glazing and can be controlled manually or as electric blinds.

Whether you would like motorisation typically changes depending on how many blinds you wish to control and how high up your skylight is. You can choose between remote-control blindssmart blinds and battery-operated blinds from us. However, battery-operated blinds might be the best solution for you if you don’t have a power source nearby

Skylight Blinds Fabrics

The fabric you choose is also just as customisable. Skylight blinds can compliment the already curated interior of your room, with a variety of colours and patterns. Although if you’re looking for flat roof skylight blinds in your bedroom you might want to look into our dim-out blinds range. Natural light from a skylight can be a gorgeous addition to any room but can be unwanted in the evening or early morning.

Bespoke blinds can fit your window from corner to corner, giving you the neatest fit to block out sunlight and stop heat escaping through gaps and out of your glazing. Our dim-out blinds are also part of our thermal blind range, and can therefore help with heat retention – bringing your costs of heating bills down over winter. We can even install blinds to any shaped skylight, with our expertise in gable blinds and over 25+ years of experience installing conservatory blinds.

Another fabric option is our pure pleated blinds range. These are just as useful for general shading and can also help you regulate room temperatures. However, an understated part of both blind fabrics is their glare reduction. Glare from roof windows can make devices difficult to see such as televisions or phones.
