Lantern roofs are a great way to combine style and elegance in a glass extension; adding a ‘wow factor’ to your home. Among other things, this type of roof is suited to almost any interior. Whether the room is a traditional oak orangery with various shaped windows in the roof. Or a flat roof in a modern open-plan kitchen extension; lantern roofs add that extra special touch to your room.
Besides transforming your orangery or extension; lantern roofs are also a brilliant way to allow natural light into your home. This then creates an inviting and bright atmosphere. However, any room with large amounts of glazing will experience an increased amount of unwanted sunlight at certain times of the year. As a result, many with lantern roofs are now looking for ways to reduce the amount of sunlight and heat during the summer months.
At Specialist Blinds Limited we have a range of blinds that tackle this problem head-on, now including our unique lantern roof roller blinds.
Lantern Roof Roller Blind
A horizontal roller is just one of the many ways to cover a lantern roof. Because of the standard rectangular shape of a roof lantern we are able fit a frame around the edge of the roof. This is essential in making sure that the roller blind does not sag. One of the key advantages of the lantern roof roller blind is they do not require wires across the roof. This means that there is no obstruction in the view when you retract the blinds.
These types of roller blinds are only available for lantern roofs. We do not recommend roller blinds for conservatory roofs as the various triangular and odd-shaped windows found in conservatories mean we are not able to apply the same framework around a conservatory roof as we would with a lantern roof. This consequently causes the roller blind to sag over time. Then it cannot provide a neat finish like with the lantern roof roller.
Alternative Lantern Blinds
Our bespoke horizontal lantern roof blinds can be made using our Duette® Pleated fabrics. This fabric helps with controlling temperatures in the room due to its honeycomb structure. Alternatively, we also offer individual lantern blinds with shaped glazing. Instead of using a single horizontal blind, we are able to install blinds which fit to each individual roof panel.
