We’ve previously mentioned the two main ways you can fit blinds to a lantern roof; highlighting horizontal blinds as an increasingly popular way of covering the space. But as they are becoming more and more popular; we are seeing more companies try to provide these styles of blinds without really knowing what they are doing.

We recently came across this example of a “budget” horizontal roof blind. As you can see from the photo, they are just normal Pleated Blinds that have been haphazardly fitted across the base of a roof lantern. This is without any special thought given to how the blinds will actually look when used horizontally. As such, not only are there large gaps between the blind and the edge of the lantern, but the blinds themselves are sagging. This creates even more gaps between each blind, which will only get worse over time.

Duette® Horizontal Lantern Roof Blinds

When viewed next to an example of our horizontal roof lantern blinds, the differences are clear. Our horizontal blinds run along rails fitted either side of the lantern. This is, so it keeps the blinds supported and it eliminates all gaps. We also tend to recommend the Duette® fabric for these style of blinds, which has a dual-layer honeycomb structure that makes it less prone to sagging when fitted horizontally.

Customer Review

Mr & Mrs recently had our Duette® horizontal lantern roof blinds installed. They are so happy with the finished product they wrote a fantastic review on our website.

“The work was very professionally undertaken – all the supporting rails are hidden on top out of sight so when the blinds are closed only blinds are visible –  any mess caused was totally cleaned up on work completion – and comprehensive demonstration of all workings on fitting – highly recommended.”

To read more reviews like this visit our profile on the independent review website Checkatrade.  Knowing the reasons to avoid budget horizontal lantern blinds is very important. This is just another example of the differences between standard blinds and blinds fitted by true experts. If you need a horizontal blind for the bottom of a roof lantern and are looking for an option, that will provide the best possible solution.  Then we can both make and install a blind perfect for your roof lantern, with years of experience with all types roof blinds.
