What Are The Best Blinds for Bi-fold Doors?

From kitchen and lounge extensions to conservatories, they are the country’s favourite garden door. What type of blinds are best for bifold doors, and can you put blinds on bifold doors? All this and more…

Bifold doors are now the most popular back door type for homes in the UK. With the ability to turn a garden into an extra room, they have the power to transform a house. But as one of our customers, Mr P from Slough told us: “Our kitchen/diner is south facing with one wall taken up by bi-fold doors. In the summer (when the sun is out!) the kitchen can overheat somewhat. We were after a product that protected us from heat in the summer and kept warmth in the winter.” So, what are the best blinds for bi-folds?

“More and more of our customers are using bifold doors to open up their homes in the summer months. They are fantastic at making small rooms feel bigger and letting fresh air into conservatories, but people run into problems with glare and heat. Our teams are here to help.”

Duette® Blinds for Bifold Doors

Duette® blinds are the best thermal blinds for bi-fold doors. They have a unique honeycomb structure that makes them excellent for insulating, shading and temperature control. Our experts use Duette® fabrics with our exclusive puresystem™ rails to fit each panel individually.

This ensures they won’t get in the way of the door’s operation. The look is clean and modern, and they do a great job of keeping houses warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Roller Blinds for Bi-Fold Doors

“Rollers also offer the benefit of keeping the bi-folds open and shading the room. It’s the perfect combination.”

If you are worried about insulating an entire set of doors, roller blinds may be the solution for you. Our installers set roller blinds above the door frame in a discrete fascia that covers all the mechanics of the blind, and which is available in 12 standard colours or can be colour matched by RAL colour system.

Using a single roller blind to cover the entire set of doors means the bi-fold’s metal frame is also covered (a big plus) so heat won’t transmit through the glazing or the frame. Worth noting here, the bi-folds need to roll back externally for this approach to work.

Combination Blinds

In the colder months bi-fold doors can lose a lot of heat through their metal frames. That’s why we recommend installing both a roller blind and individual recess fit Duette® blinds or pleated blinds for bi-fold doors. The combination of a fitted blind and a roller definitely makes a difference and warms rooms up.

Can I Get Roller Blinds For Bi-fold Doors?

Looking for the best blinds for bifold doors? If you want a simple blind that covers the bifold door and hangs above the frame, roller blinds for bi-fold doors are a great solution. They are simple, easy to use and easy to operate.

Any Other Blinds I Can Choose From?

We are asked by a lot of customers if it is possible to use other types of blinds such as pinoleum or vertical blinds for bifold doors. The answer is a partial yes! However, as with roller, pinoleum and vertical blinds for bifold doors they can only be fitted above the doors if the doors fold back externally.

Another popular question is whether customers can have Perfect Fit blinds on bi-fold doors. I think it is important to point out here that while it is technically possible to use Perfect Fit blinds recess fitted into the frames of a bi-fold door, it isn’t recommended because Perfect Fit frames are quite large.
