Bi-fold blind options – which blinds should I install?

Bifold doors

Bi-fold doors are becoming more commonplace in modern homes. They provide an extensive view of the outdoors and allow you to open up your space. However, if you’re looking for privacy or to reduce heat loss in your home then you may have considered bi-fold door blinds. We offer a variety of blind fittings and fabrics and can help you find the perfect bi-fold blind options to suit your space and style.

Free hanging Bi-fold Door Blinds

Shading a large set of bi-fold doors can be difficult, especially if you don’t want to control several blinds. With free-hanging door blinds, we often have options for larger blinds available that cover several doors at once. Free-hanging blinds are fit above bi-folding doors instead of on them. This tends to be a popular choice for those who do not want to drill into their doors but still want a level of shading in their room. The free-hanging blinds are most popular in our roller blinds fabric or Duette® thermal blinds

They are a simple option to provide privacy in your home, but you can also get them in different transparencies that still let you see your view.  Additionally, the roll of material can be easily disguised in a neat cassette for style and overall aesthetic.

Recess-fit Bi-fold Blind Options

Another popular solution for bi-fold blinds are blinds that we fix into each door panel individually. This full coverage prevents heat from escaping through your glazing, therefore insulating your home while giving maximum coverage. You can also customise this coverage by selecting which individual blind you want down or up, for example the one by the television. A highlight of this particular fit is the drill-free option that many favour due to it’s less-intrusive installation process.

For further control over your shading, we recommend top-down and bottom-up blinds. These are blinds don’t have to operate from just the top of bottom, they can be left ‘floating’ in the middle. This means you can have precision over which part of the glazing you would like to see through and perhaps block where the sun is glaring through.

Fabrics for Bi-fold Blind Options

The most popular fabrics for our recess-fit Bi-fold Door Blinds are Duette® blinds and our purePleated blinds. These blinds retract away in a neat stack and therefore don’t look bulky sitting at the top or bottom of your glazing. Depending on the fabric and rail colours, the stacks can even blend in seamlessly with the door frames themselves.

We recommend Duette® blinds if you’re looking to help regulate the temperature in your home. The cellular honeycomb structure helps trap in heat but reflects it in the warm summer months. Pleated blinds work similarly, but have a singular pleat.

In comparison, free-hanging blinds are often installed as Roller Blinds or Pinoleum Blinds. Roller blinds are a cost-effective solution for covering wide areas of glazing with just one or two blinds. Roller blinds come in a variety of transparencies, shades and colours. Whereas you can customise pinoleum in other ways such as the weave colour and optional solar lining. The pinoleum material will only allow speckled sunlight however, not complete shade.
