Doors with a large amount of glazing; such as bi-folding and sliding doors are a great way to add natural light to your home. However, with doors can come problems with glare, temperature control, and privacy. At Conservatory Blinds Limited we have a variety of different blinds for doors. But, we are often asked what are the best blinds for doors? The short answer to this question is it depends on the type of doors you have, and the end product you are looking for.
Blinds for Sliding Doors
Sliding doors are a great addition to any conservatory. However, due to how they operate, we take great care to assure the blinds don’t interfere. Similarly, the blinds should be a complimentary asset to the room, fitting in with any other blinds in the conservatory.
In some cases, we can recess-fit a pure™ Pleated or Duette® Blind into both parts of the glass of the door without interfering with its operation.
However, this is not guaranteed in all cases as some may not have space to fit blinds into the frames. So, the alternate solution we use is to fit a free-hanging blind which the door can easily slide behind. As you can see from the photos below, this method still allows us to create a neat look for the blinds while still making them easy to use. For the free-hanging blinds, we will use a child-safe operation method, such as the cord-free LiteRise® system. This system is featured in the image below and means the short-cord will retract back to the headrail of the blind.
We always strive to provide the neatest solution to any tricky areas like this and are only able to provide such an option thanks both to the unique technology we have developed over the decades and due to the training and experience of our installation team.
Blinds for Bi-Folding Doors
There are two main ways we install blinds for bi-folding doors. This includes either Individual Blinds or Free-Hanging blinds.
Individual Blinds: Many customers opt for bi-folding door blinds which are fixed to each door panel. This provides them with an extra layer of insulation and protection in their home. While still not interfering with the operation of the doors and being able to have full control over which parts of the room you shade and when. For example, having a select few up and one down solely to prevent glare in a certain area of the room. e.g. a television set.
Free-Hanging Blinds: Similarly, some customers choose to have our free-hanging blinds. Free-hanging blinds are fit above bi-folding doors instead of on them. This tends to be a popular choice for those who do not want to drill into their doors but still want a level of shading in their room. The free-hanging blinds are popular in our roller blind fabric or Duette® blind fabric.
