Traditional Pinoleum Blinds in a Somerset Hotel

We were recently contacted by the owners of a hotel in Somerset, who needed to replace some Pinoleum blinds they had fitted throughout the hotel’s restaurant, which is located in a traditional stone-built building.

Over the years of having the blinds they had encountered a rather unique problem. The owners of the hotel had found that braiding of some of the old pinoleum blinds had started to wear; and the backs of the chairs in the restaurant had been rubbing against them when the chairs were pushed out.

This was because the old blinds had been surface mounted above the window frame; meaning each blind was raised away from each window. This allowed the chairs to come into contact with them on a daily basis.

Our solution was to recess fit the blinds inside the actual window frame and against the wooden beading of the windows, so that the blinds did not protrude as much as the old ones. Not only did this mean that the backs of the chairs could not rub against them; and wear the pinoleum weave; but it also meant that the traditional pinoleum blinds themselves look neater.

To complement the natural look of the stone and wood construction of the room we fitted the pinoleum blinds with our classic oak headrail, which had been painted to match the colour of the pinoleum for a more integrated look.

Overall we fitted 24 pinoleum blinds across the entire restaurant; adding shading and protection from glare to the entire room. While still keeping with the traditional feel of the décor; and most importantly neatly fitted away from any potential wear from the chair backs.
