Can you clean conservatory roof blinds?

Yes! Especially when you have our manual Pure™ conservatory blinds. These blinds, made in our Kent factory, are designed to be removed easily for cleaning. Our Solar Design™ fabrics are designed to be fully washable, while other fabrics like Duette® might be sponge clean only.

Why are only some blinds are easy-clean?

Our manual Pure™ Blinds feature a clip‑in system that allows quick detachment. This means they can be easil cleaned and, in the case of our Solar Design fabrics, hand-washed or hoovered on a low setting and easily reattached. Other roof‑mounted systems use tension or bespoke frame fittings, so they are not to be removed and can be damaged if forced. Because of the complexity of their installation, motorised blinds cannot be fully removed in the same way manual blinds can.

How do I clean my blinds safely?

Keeping Our Fitters Cool & Safe In Warm Weather
If you have our Pure™ conservatory blinds, we have detailed instructions and videos in our My Blinds customer area which will show you how to remove your blinds for cleaning. The exact way to clean your blinds will depend on the type of blinds you have. Single-pleast Solar Design™ fabrics can be fully washed in a bath, while Duette® fabrics and pinoleum wood wave can only be wiped down with a damp cloth.

What not to do while cleaning conservatory blinds

  • Never dismantle constant‑tension systems like lantern roof blinds.
  • Don’t try to remove motorised blinds – doing so could mean having to arrange for a fitter to return and re-fit them.
  • Avoid harsh cleaning products, fabric may fade or shrink.

Never remove blinds that sit behind glass with top tension, these aren’t built for DIY removal.

Why does regular cleaning matter?

Conservatory blinds are regularly exposed to dust, pollen and sun. Regular cleaning improves appearance and keeps them looking like new for longer. Hoovering every few months and a more thorough cleaning every 12–18 months, keeps fabric vibrant and working optimally.

It also helps with allergen control, which is increasingly important in UK homes. Keeping your blinds clean also helps prevent any mould forming on the blinds. Mould can attach itself to any dirt on the fabric and is very difficult to remove once it’s there, so prevention is the best method of controlling it.

Cleaning conservatory roof blinds

If your roof blinds unclip, you can unclip them at one end to shake out any dirt, dust or debris.

Some fabrics can be spot cleaned using lukewarm water and a damp cloth or sponge. It’s important to check your contract to see what fabric you have to gain specific maintenance advice for your blinds.

What if your blinds aren’t easy-clean?

If you have roof blinds that don’t clip out, don’t worry. There are still some tricks to help clean your blinds in situ, including blowing any dust or bugs out using a hairdryer.

Specialist Blinds also offers maintenance services to our customers that extend the life of your blinds.
