Triangular Blinds: The Easy Guide

Everything you need to know about gable, apex and triangular blinds.

Triangular windows are impressive at first glance, but finding blinds to fit triangular windows can be challenging. We’ve worked with triangle windows of many shapes and sizes over the past 25 years. Installer Richard Jones answers some customer questions.

Are there other names for triangular windows?
Glad you asked! We work with triangular windows of many shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are called apex windows, sometimes gable windows (which fit into the pitch of a roof) and sometimes just plain triangular shaped windows. Regardless of how our clients describe their window, we make custom blinds for all of them.

Do they make blinds for triangular windows?
Not every blind company can make blinds for triangular windows. We custom make all our blinds in our factory in Ashford, Kent. The best blinds for triangular windows need to be measured up by one of our surveyors and built specifically for the client. Over the years we have made over 52,000 triangular window blinds, from large dramatic gables and apex blinds, to smaller discreet shapes.

Can you put blinds on triangular windows?
Yes, you can get blinds for triangular windows. Our exclusive Pure™ Aspect system means we can fit your blinds into a wide range of triangular shapes and still achieve a slim profile. We also make sure that our components colour match your interior. We offer 12 standard colours and can colour match using the RAL colour system. We tend to keep. You can find more on our blind options here.

What to do with a triangle window?
Good question. Whether your triangle is a gable window or just a regular triangle, you can choose from modern classic Duette® honeycomb pleated fabrics, to a more cottage-core pinoleum slatted blind. If you prefer a modern look, or need something more formal for an office, we can make vertical blinds for triangular windows too. It all depends on the mood of your interior whether it is a kitchen, a sitting room or bedroom.

“We’ve often seen customers struggle with gables that sit above feature windows. They either hang a curtain on the window below and forget about the gable, or they put multiple blinds into the triangle to accommodate all the angles. We’ve got a few ideas that can help…”

Can you get electric blinds for triangle windows?
Yes. Electric blinds for triangular windows can be manually operated or motorised, with options for remote control, mains power, battery operation, or even solar power and integration with other home automation systems.

Can you get Perfect Fit or roller blinds for triangular windows?
Perfect fit windows were originally designed for rectangular UPVC windows, so we don’t immediately recommend perfect fit for triangular windows, as the frame would be bulky and there would be a large amount of glazing lost. Roller blinds need to be fixed above window frames, so they are not a good match for a triangular window.

How to dress a triangle-shaped window?
So, how do you cover a triangle window? We cover gable windows with minimal gaps using just two fully operational blinds. That means they retract into a much neater shape which won’t dominate your room.

What about tricky shapes?
We love a challenge. Triangular windows come in all shapes and sizes and require many different size window blinds. Over the years our R&D team have developed a series of exclusive components to help our installers fit the minimum number of blinds for the best impact. For example, some apex windows we have worked on had an extra area of glazing running below. We are able to make gable blinds that extend past the triangle and into the rectangular space below. So, while there may be common window blind sizes, but we have solutions for every shape
