Are Pleated Blinds energy efficient?

Posted: 16 Dec 2022

Generally, all forms of blinds have great insulation properties and therefore aid in preserving the heat in your home, making them more energy efficient. However as our pure pleated blinds are specially designed for conservatories, they can be especially effective there. In the winter, conservatories lose heat quickly and are difficult to maintain a regular temperature for, however, blinds help you make the most of your heating – making them more energy efficient.

Blinds for insulating a Conservatory

Any form of conservatory blinds can make an incredible difference in your conservatory’s temperature. With the right blinds in your conservatory, you can conserve heat in the winter and block it out in the summer – so they are a year-round effective investment.

So how does it work? The floor-to-ceiling glazing in a conservatory results in a loss of heat in the winter as it escapes through the glass, unlike regular walls. However, a solution for this is made-to-measure blinds that cover your entire window.

We recommend conservatory roof blinds and blinds along the sides of your conservatory. If your main reason for installing blinds is to combat volatile temperatures, we do recommend our Duette® conservatory blinds. The cellular texture traps in a layer of air creating an extra barrier between your conservatory’s glazing and the temperature outside. However our single-pleated blinds are also very effective as thermal conservatory blinds.

Gable Blinds Semi Retracted

The benefits of pure™ Pleated Blinds in a conservatory

Our pleated blinds are made up of Solar Design™ fabrics so they prevent heat loss and act as an additional layer of insulation. Additionally, they are one of our most customisable blind types and we can fit them to all the unique shaped glazing in your conservatory roof. This extremely neat finish is essential in heat loss prevention and providing a seamless look across your conservatory. With our colour-matching technology, our blinds look like part of your conservatory rather than an afterthought.

We have over 25 years of crafting conservatory blinds in our purpose-built factory in Ashford, Kent. This means we have the expertise to craft even gable-end conservatory blinds with extremely neat retraction, leaving your view uninterrupted.

Pleated Gable Blinds - Fully Extended

How Pleated Blinds can save your conservatory furniture

Furniture and general furnishings can be expensive and they are a lot more expensive if you have to repeatedly replace them due to fading and sun-bleaching. Pleated blinds protect your conservatories from facing daily sunlight and year-round, meaning you save on furnishings too. So, we would recommend installing modern conservatory blinds that can protect your home.

Alternative energy efficient Blinds

Other worthy options for conservatory blinds include our pure™ pinoleum blinds which are a great solution if you’re trying to maintain a traditional look in a timber conservatory. They have an optional solar lining that therefore gives a similar insulating effect. Albeit, the pinoleum material makes it more difficult for a close fit. Another sustainable option for insulation is roller blinds, they also provide a barrier against between the cold window and your room. However, due to their loose free-hanging fit they don’t trap in the heat and are less effective for insulation. Alternatively, our most popular option for its thermal properties is our Duette® thermal blind range as mentioned earlier.

Customer reviews

This has been one of the smoothest processes in redoing our house. Conservatory blinds came when they said they would both for the quote and installation. The installer cleaned up after himself completely and we're very happy with the blinds

A few years ago Conservatory Blinds fitted electric blackout blinds in a large irregularly-shaped skylight. They are brilliant.

Recently a rather cynical and jaded estate agent commented how clever they were when they saw them in operation. Working out the angles cannot have been an easy task.

Today I had the blinds serviced. I cannot recommend Ryan enough.
