Perfect Fit blinds, also known as exact fit blinds, are a popular, easy solution for shading windows, but do they suit every situation?

Read our Q&A with our Contracts Manager Sean for all the answers:

Q: What are Perfect Fit Blinds?
A: Perfect Fit blinds are single-pleat, cellular or Venetian blinds mounted within a frame. They do not require drilling or screwing. The actual ‘Perfect Fit’ system refers to the frame itself, rather than the specific type of blind used within it. In other words, it’s the frame that makes it a “Perfect Fit” and not the blinds.

Q: How do Perfect Fit blinds work?
A: Simply put, Perfect Fit window blinds do not require drilling into the frame in order to be fitted into a window. They are literally pushed into the existing frame between the glass and the neoprene gasket. That’s it!

Q: Can I have Perfect Fit blinds?
A: There are a lot of issues to consider when buying Perfect Fit blinds. Customers ask us everything from: “Do perfect fit blinds fit all upvc windows?” (they work well for rectangular windows made of UPVC) to: “Can you fit perfect fit blinds to wooden windows?”

In fact, that’s a bigger question. We are sometimes able to fit them, but they would not be our first recommendation for complicated windows or windows made from timber or aluminium. One of our consultants can work with you to find the right solution to your shading needs.

Q: What are Perfect Fit blinds suitable for?
A: Perfect fit blinds were purpose-made for rectangular UPVC windows, and are a great solution for this type of window especially as a DIY option.

If you have new UPVC windows and are worried about your guarantee, these blinds use sliders rather than screws and so don’t require any drilling.

For other more complicated projects, or those with aluminium or timber framed windows, our own bespoke range of window blinds are a more suitable option.

Q: What are the disadvantages of Perfect Fit blinds?
A: While they are easy to fit, there are a lot of drawbacks:

The Perfect Fit frame is quite bulky and they cover a lot more glazing than a recess-fitted blind, covering the glass and making the window look smaller.

Perfect Fit blinds were conceived to be used in standard shaped windows and are effective for UPVC rectangular windows. They cannot be fitted into any unusual or awkward shapes. They can be adapted for some aluminium and timber windows, however they were not really designed for them. We also don’t recommend them for sliding doors, folding doors or roofs.

If installed incorrectly, Perfect Fit blinds can damage window seals, so working with a trusted installer is critical. Mould or condensation occurs when there is air trapped between the glass and the blind, but again a good installer will ensure this does not occur. If you do suffer from mould, check this guide.

“When deciding on Perfect Fit blinds, it’s a good idea to double check what your window is made of first. Perfect Fit Blinds are an easy solution for classic rectangular UPVC windows, but they aren’t as suited for timber or aluminium framing”

Q: Can I have Perfect Fit Blinds for Sliding and Folding Doors?
A: Perfect Fit Blinds are not the ideal choice for sliding and folding doors because of their heavy frames which can interfere with the smooth operation of the doors. They can be used for common push-pull doors but they will make the windows look smaller. Read more on the best solutions for sliding and folding doors here.

Q: What are a good alternative to Perfect Fit blinds?
As Perfect Fit blinds are very popular in conservatories, our own puresystem™ window blinds are an excellent and neater alternative. Instead of covering the glass with a bulky frame, they fit directly into the recess of the windows with our own unique rails, that don’t cover the glass. While they are not a drill-free option, our puresystem™ blinds are a sleeker and better looking option.

Q: What fabrics work with Perfect Fit Blinds?
A: We offer cordless Venetian, single-pleat, and cellular fabrics in our Perfect Fit products.

Q: Can I customise the frame at all?
The Perfect Fit frame doesn’t have the wide range of colour options that you can get with our puresystem™ hardware, however we do offer them in either the standard white or in Golden Oak or Mahogany colours for an extra cost.
